Overview

Cacti Authenticated Remote Code Execution

An authenticated OS command injection vulnerability in Cacti 1.2.30 and earlier allows an attacker with device and graph template management privileges to execute arbitrary operating system commands.

The vulnerability exists in Cacti's variable substitution engine, which incorporates user-controlled host metadata into RRDtool command-line arguments without sufficient sanitization. An attacker can inject shell metacharacters into a device's notes field, reference the |host_notes| variable in a crafted graph template, and trigger command execution when the graph is rendered.

Successful exploitation can result in remote code execution with the privileges of the web server process.
